Today is marked as World BDSM Day due to the date 24th July being a play on 24/7 which is often used as shorthand for the dynamics of continuous power exchange and commitment to the lifestyle within the BDSM community. it has long been the aim of SM Gays to do our bit to support eachother and to inform and educate the wider community – maybe even to sweep away some of the misconceptions surrounding the BDSM family. It’s time to do away with ‘fetish shaming’ aimed at happy practitioners.

BDSM is a clever acronym which encompases six words in three overlapping pairs: Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & Submission, Sadism & Masochism

World BDSM Day was begun in 2003 by the Swiss advocate Kurt Walter Fisher who was the owner of the famous Rosa Cinco Club in Barcelona. The aim of the day is to increase the visibility of BDSM, to reduce some of the social stigma surrounding it and to promote community support. BDSM exists not only in the LGBTQ+ arena but across all areas of the human social and gender spectrum.

At it’s core are a set of values which apply to all genuine practitioners, namely safe, sane, and consensual practices, mutual trust and clear communication.

Greetings all and first of all a huge thankyou to everyone who came along to the April CP night. One of our best nights in a long time and there was a great atmosphere as well as the pleasing sounds of a great deal of impact play going on around the club. We hope that the intrepid explorers among you discovered the extra space that has been created with the alterations which Alan and his team have made to the club

May promises to be a crazy month with no more than 3 public holidays to contend with and royalty in abundance but we will be welcoming you all back on Thursday 18th for our next Discovery night. The theme is Electro but we are also happy to welcome our good friend Kai and the playful members of his Puppy Pride group who will have a well equipped playspace set up which is bound to get those tails wagging!

Come along to our Bondage themed discovery night this Thursday 16th 6-11pm at The London Bunker. This is often one of the most popular nights in our calendar. There will be several of our regular ropers around the space doing their stuff and our own Master Tim will give a short introduction to the basics of rope bondage.

Greetings to all our friends and supporters and welcome to a New Year at SM Gays. First of all let me say a big thank you to all of our guests both old and new, to our wonderful volunteers who make the events so much fun, and to Alan and his team at The Bunker for continuing to make us so welcome at the club.

We are happy to announce our calendar of events for the coming year but do keep in mind that these are subject to change dependant on such things as availability of ‘specialists’ etc. so do check the calendar regularly. Of course the themes are the main event of the evenings but as always we encourage other activities to take place throughout the event and you will usually find someone leading one or more of the basic activities such as bondage, restraint, powerplay or cp. If anyone wants to suggest an activity or better still to organise one please let us know.

We have begun collecting names and email addresses to establish a membership programme and we hope that early in the new year we may start to issue membership cards and send out a monthly newsletter. As an incentive to members we will change the admission criteria on our Discovery nights and although we want to keep the current £10 entrance fee, the free drinks tickets will only be available to registered members. We will announce this change in advance so don’t worry about it just yet.

Greetings all. Firstly we want to thank all of you who made our first three post lockdown Discovery nights such a great success. Like so many others we were hesitant about returning to real-life events but we needn’t have worried. Thanks to our host Alan Roberts at Bunker Bar, we were able to safely start up again and your loyalty in turning out has shown that our belief that there is still a place for SM Gays on the London scene was well founded.

It has been great to see old friends back again and also really gratifying to welcome lots of new faces of all ages! Now that we are firmly back on the map, the committee has come up with a calendar of events taking us right through to the end of 2022. Do keep checking in as each event will be described in more detail as the date approaches and the themes may even change depending on needs and the availability of demonstrators.

We have no intention of letting our 40th year go unmarked and we will do this at our annual Christmas Party in December. We are also in the final stages of preparing to accept an amazing award from the Leather Hall of Fame, in America at the end of this month (Nov 2021) so watch out for more details of that coming soon.

As the world drags itself back to some sort of normality, we are looking forward to welcoming you all back to our monthly discovery nights at London’s Bunker Bar. Since the government has yet to settle on the final version of what a safe space should be we will post regular updates here and on our official Twitter feed (@sm_gays). For now we will run these events as social evenings and while there might not be an organised theme as you have come to expect, we will be on hand to help, advise and encourage your favourite kinks as always. Of course as soon as things settle we will introduce regular themed events once more.
